Biographical Text

Isaac Hecker corresponded with Orestes Augustus Brownson leading up to his conversion. He was baptized by Bishop John McCloskey of New York., After he converted to Catholicism, Hecker became a Redemptorist priest, being ordained in 1849. After his Redemptorist vows were annulled, Hecker founded the Missionary Priests of St. Paul the Apostle, or the Paulist Fathers, an order devoted to missions. Hecker also founded the Catholic World, a newspaper.
