Biographical Text

Jerusha Booth Barber converted from the Episcopal church to the Roman Catholic church along with her husband, Virgil Horace Barber, in New York in 1816. She and her husband separated with the permission of Bishop Fenwick. In July 1817 she entered the Visitation Order in Georgetown, DC, as a novice. She and her husband both took their vows on February 23, 1820 in the Georgetown convent. She lived in convents in Georgetown, Kaskaskia, St. Louis, and Mobile.
