Max Wertheimer was ordained as a rabbi by the Hebrew Union College in 1889. He was rabbi of Temple B'nai Yeshurun in Dayton, Ohio, but resigned as rabbi in 1899. He converted to Christian Science in 1900. In 1904 he became a Baptist missionary to the Jews.
