Biographical Text
Peter Hardeman Burnett, politician and first governor of the state of California (1849-1851), converted to Roman Catholicism in Oregon during June, 1846. He had been raised as a Baptist, but became a member of the Disciples of Christ in 1840. He wrote several works about his conversion and new religion.
